Elizabeth Noerdlinger lives and paints in Redwood City, California. She works mainly in oils, with a focus on landscapes. She is inspired by the natural world around her and wants to share the moments or views that strike her as amazing and beautiful. It might be a trail through the trees, a group of deer at the side of the road, a strip of grass golden in the sun, or light on the water.
Elizabeth paints on wood or canvas with thin layers of oil paint, often wiping or brushing away areas. The gradual development of the painting helps give a sense of depth and feels like a journey to her as she progresses. She often works from photographs, but sometimes uses her imagination as she moves the paint around, letting the resulting marks and shapes suggest the composition.
Elizabeth studied English and Education but also took drawing and painting classes at Amherst College, Parson’s School of Design, Cañada College and the College of San Mateo. She was a teacher for nine years in New York and California, teaching different grades in Science, English, and Art. She presently teaches yoga at the YMCA in Redwood City, CA and is a member of a cooperative gallery, The Main Gallery, in Redwood City. She is represented by the Left Bank Gallery in Orleans, Massachusetts. Images of her work can be seen on her website: www.lmws.org
Elizabeth’s work was on display at the Atherton Library in April 2015.
